Uncover Automatic Depression Thoughts: Depression Skills 18 | Dr. Rami Nader
This video explores how our thoughts, not necessarily the situation itself, determine our emotional responses in depression. The key is that these thoughts are often automatic and unconscious. Depression can make this worse, leading to negative spirals. The first step to interrupting this cycle is recognizing the connection between your thoughts and feelings. The video introduces a tool called a 3-column thought record to help you become more aware of your automatic thoughts. The three columns are: a) Situation: Describe the who, what, where, and when of the event; b) Emotions: List the emotions you're feeling (sad, angry, etc.); c) Thoughts: Write down all the thoughts you're having in t...

    I remember that when I suffered from severe depression some years ago I used to tell myself that depression is like sunglasses. You see everything through the lenses of depression. Whenever I had a negative thought I would tell myself: "This is not me, this is my depression talking". Detaching me from my negative thoughts helped me improve.

  • @JoqsanCastellanos
    @JoqsanCastellanos 3 дня назад

    I don't have a severe depression right now. However I feel like I have a mild depression that persists over time. I mean if severe depression is a 100%, my mild depression is always around 30%. It's not as debilitating as a severe depression can be. Still, it can also be annoying and tiring anyways.

    Dr. Nader, the thought record worksheets are really insightful. I’ve been using them to tap into some underlying worries that fuel anxiety for me. My psychologist suggested pairing the thought catalog insights and then using the worry management tool during worry time, if you will, to really drill down to the root of my mental health struggles. It’s working! Thank you. Looking forward to the fourth column.

    Agoraphobia is a GENETIC DISORDER You cannot DEVELOP agoraphobia. It has many characteristics similar to psychological anxiety disorders. But it IS NOTa psychological disorder. I wish I reached something like this in 1987 when I was left by my highschool crush in the 2nd year in college, in Japan. She was one year junior to me, a member of the highschool club activity where seniors taught juniors. It was a taboo for me to treat a junior with personal interest. But I was really attached to her and could not help but confessing to her when I was leaving the club. I was not rejected. I thought the emotion was mostly unidirectional. I tried not to bother her in the final year in highschool where she had to devote most of her time and energy to prepare for the entrance exams for college. We just exchanged lots of mail (the ones that actually gets delivered by the postman). She was into psychology, Nietzche, and literature. I was into computers and robot-anime. Based on her interests she chose a top-notch university far away, and passed the exam. It was right after her moving to that new location that she revealed that the emotions were at both sides. My expectations for what could happen when I meet here next time peaked. But before seeing her again, I received a mail telling me that she met someone that she got deeply attracted. She told me that I was neglecting social problems in the world. The world was over for me. After an year struggling, I wanted to kill myself but I discovered that the disappointment was not as acute to actually do something that would kill me. So the intensity of the disappointment was not as strong as I claimed to myself. I also read about peoples lives that was a lot worse than mine. What is the worth of life when all hope is lost? ask Viktor Frankl and his book will tell you that you can still find meaning in life even in Auschwitz. I also read about the Japanese invasion in China in world war II. It seemed that I had no right to feel disappointed. But all that info didn't help at all. Thank you for the video.
